Podcast or vidcast with Veronica?
So yesterday Veronica let it out that we’ve been talking for a long time — like, almost a year? — about doing a podcast or vidcast together. Apparently people are into the idea, but I’m still undecided. Like anything else, I’d want it to be something we could commit to doing regularly, and, well, we’re both pretty busy. But ok, assuming we made the time to do it, what would you want us to talk about? Maybe it’s safest to assume we will talk about tech stuff, specifically the stuff we didn’t really discuss on the Engadget Podcast or Buzz Out Loud — but what would we call it?
If we’re gonna consider this thing, we need at very least a snappy name. That’s where you come in! Howsabout you guys give V and I some suggestions for a name for our show (and what you want us to talk about, if not tech stuff). I think we just need a kick in the ass to get ourselves started.

[...] OK, so I think this podcast thing with Ryan might actually happen! Go see his post for more deets. [...]

I think it’s a great idea. A name will come from somewhere unexpected, don’t try to think of it. Go podcast at first, then if it gets big you can experiment with vidcast.
Comment by John Cruz — Tuesday, March 20, 2007 @ 4:44 pm
When I’m trying to pick a name, I sometimes pick a bit of song lyrics that I really like and base the name off that. Consider going through the lyrics of some favorite songs. Maybe geeky songs (Beck?), or something apropos.

How about Veronicast? ;)
Ok, I know it’s gonna be a two person show, but come on - it does have a ring to it, no?

The idea that I have is not to talk only about technology. Do videos about places you go, meals you cook at home, friends you have over. Obviously you’re going to talk about technology but if you branch out then you’ll have even more to record.
Comment by Andy Melton — Tuesday, March 20, 2007 @ 4:49 pm
I say go for it. I’d prefer a vidcast but a podcast is just fine.
As for content, I’m not sure. I guess you can always talk about what you’ve found interesting within the tech news recently. I doubt it really has to be tech news, just anything.
As for a name…that’s going to take some time. I may have to get back to you on that.
Comment by Jon — Tuesday, March 20, 2007 @ 4:53 pm
Square Talk
Geek Blox
Technically Leftovers
aSide Show
I’d say cover things on the Internet that interest you most. The other podcasts you mentioned are more what is currently in the news.
I know some of these are dumb but I was just throwing out whatever popped into my head :)
Comment by Scott — Tuesday, March 20, 2007 @ 4:55 pm
I would really enjoy a vidcast out of you guys. As for a name how about Technostyle or The V&R Show. Best i could think of on this quick of notice ^_^
Comment by Shinmaryuu — Tuesday, March 20, 2007 @ 4:55 pm
“V-R bloggles” …. heh, no.
i say, get the top three areas of tech interest from your reader base and chose from those.
for me:
DRM related current discussion
emerging “indie” tech (not specifically for profit)
…. uhhh, i’ll think of something else later.

For a title, using the first letter of both your last names:
“What’s on the B-side?”
For topics of shows…whatever you feel like talking about. It’s your show after all :)

“V and Me - and you Makes Three”
or “Me and V and You Makes Three”
Shorthand “VM&3″ or “MV&3″. It’s pretty much up to your ego :)

Name should reflect the content of the show. You mentioned tech, but that doesn’t really mean anything. Devices and Media are already covered by Engadget & Crave, Industry news is hit by BOL. Are you actually adding value beyond the shows that you currently contribute to?
Comment by Mitchel Tyrell — Tuesday, March 20, 2007 @ 7:57 pm
Another nod to the B-Side idea.
You guys coul do a ‘cast about anything and it’ll be like wildfire, you know that, right? :) I mean, c’mon. The First Couple of Geekdom, together, on one show?!?! Sweeeet.
That having been said, anything geeky would be fun. And a show format that’s irreverent and everchanging would seem to suit you two, I think.
Whatever you decide, I’m interested!
Comment by John B. — Tuesday, March 20, 2007 @ 8:40 pm
I love the idea, I always told V that you two are like the famous Nerd/Geek Internet couple… Is it going to be Vryan, BelBlock? Who knows…
100% support from Bananaland here…
Besides tech I think you both could talk about the life in SF as 2 young people from other places… That would be interesting…
If any of you have the chance check out Jawboneradio, it’s a very nice couple podcast. ;)

Veruca SALT
VEronica & Ryan United podCAst: a Salute And Lambasting of Technology
—————————
“I want it now!” lyrics
I want a ball
I want a party
Pink macaroons and a million balloons
And performing baboons and …
Give it to me
Rrhh rhhh
Now!
I want the world
I want the whole world
I want to lock it all up in my pocket
It’s my bar of chocolate
Give it to me
Now!
I want today
I want tomorrow
I want to wear ‘em like braids in my hair
And I don’t want to share ‘em
I want a party with room fulls of laughter
Ten thousand tons of ice cream
And if I don’t get the things I am after
I’m going to scream!
I want the works
I want the whole works
Presents and prizes and sweets and surprises
Of all shapes and sizes
And now
Don’t care how
I want it now
Don’t care how
I want it now

Last night I thought up two names that you might like for your podcast.
The VCR podcast, or just VCR (for Veronica, the cats & Ryan)
or
BelBlock
I look forward to the first episode!
Comment by Mike — Wednesday, March 21, 2007 @ 6:02 am
We’ve already given you the name, Ryan. Jeez.
ROCKET SPOON!
Comment by Alex Rudloff — Wednesday, March 21, 2007 @ 6:29 am
Bel and The Block.
His % Hers
Block Culture
or you can call it Littlejeans.
Since you guys have all the insider info into the tech industry, how about an insider look into all those tech parties? A weekly podcast about Tech Culture instead of just the gadgets.
It’s your show so you can talk about anything you want. But you guys should probably dedicate a few seconds on a drink of the week/day…
Comment by Darayz — Wednesday, March 21, 2007 @ 6:40 am
Don’t know about a title, as I am not so witty after a long night. But I do think it should reflect each of your personal interests (mostly regarding tech), all mashed up with each other complimenting and contrasting.
WoW and Wii for V are easy, but everything from your daily experiences with your smartphone, to the coolest thing you just learned about your tivo, to TV shows, your favorite burrito this week…blah blah blah.

Personally, I like “The B List.” I think it would be interesting to hear how you both deal with your busy schedules and what you do besides work. My beau and I both work in the media, and let me tell you it’s difficult removing ourselves from our computers and feeds.

How about West Meets East (You know, Connecticut vs. OC?)
Comment by Tom — Wednesday, March 21, 2007 @ 9:04 am
Tom, I heard there’s already a couple of doofs doing a podcast by that same name — strange, no?
Comment by Ryan Block — Wednesday, March 21, 2007 @ 9:09 am
“Cult Hero”
or
“ExtraNothing”
or
“BuzzGadget”
or
“Air Guitar Champ and her Geeky Sidekick”
Whatever you end up calling it, I want to feature it on TVTonic.
Comment by Andre — Wednesday, March 21, 2007 @ 9:40 am
Noice! Although I think we’re leaning towards podcast to start, much more overhead to do video.
Comment by Ryan Block — Wednesday, March 21, 2007 @ 9:44 am
Blocko Bel
I don’t mind vidcasts, but make an audio version available too so it’s easier to listen to while driving or doing other things. That’s when I catch most of my podcasts.
Comment by Keith — Wednesday, March 21, 2007 @ 11:06 am
Vryan?
As I sometime suggested to BOL and used to like about Engadget, try to focus on longer term issues, maybe propulsed by news, but there’s enough news coverage already.
Also, try talking about favourite gadgets, nowadays and historical, going one category at a time. As R is more into imaging and phones and V more into sound and gaming, one could play the savvy role and the other the “ocassional user” role each time.
Comment by Jorge — Thursday, March 22, 2007 @ 7:11 am
Also, you’re both are pro-users regarding blogging and podcasting, which usually involves design, image, sound and and video editing. You can really give lessons about those issues and talk alot about software you use and practices you have.
Finally, living in lively SF, you can give a trendy musical /arts side to the podcast.
Please, let it be an audio one, I won’t be able to follow you if you choose video.
Comment by Jorge — Thursday, March 22, 2007 @ 7:15 am
Ryan - I think you’re thinking of a different podcast called “East Meets West” See yours could be called “WEST meets EAST” It’s totally different.
Comment by Tom — Thursday, March 22, 2007 @ 8:35 am
Great idea!
How about, “He Said She Said”
The tags lines could be something like,
“The podcast of indeterminate gender.”
“They can’t both be right, or can they?”
The logo could be the Yen and Yang symbol, incorporating pink and black, or even the symbols for male and female with a similar color scheme.
Good luck,
M

The title.. You could try ‘The Title’
or ‘V for Technetta’.
Comment by Ian Nock — Monday, March 26, 2007 @ 4:16 pm
V for Block
(like “A for Apple” but lets make ppl wonder y title is odd)
Comment by Manoj — Wednesday, April 4, 2007 @ 2:09 am
RaV (Ryan and Veronica).
The vidcast would be about you two raving about the stuff you love… or ranting about the stuff you don’t. To be more specific, you could talk about the tech, music, movies, tv, or green issues that strike you as interesting.
It should probably be a weekly or fortnightly vidcast given your busy schedules.
